Solidaridad makes a plea for a different type of development co-operation, i.e. Trade not Aid, with more attention to economic development and greater investment in fair trade. Producers in developing countries do not wish to be dependent on aid. They want to earn their own income. Through their income and the profits of their co-operatives or associations, local social services such as education and health care are made possible. That is fair and that is sustainable.
