Bickley House is situated on the Atlantic Seaboard, only 5 minutes walk from the beach promenade and 15 minutes from the new stadium. Bickley House is a four star property and it is one of Sea Point’s oldest houses and classified as a national monument.
Bickley House provides equal opportunities in the workplace by affirming historically disadvantaged individuals (HDIs) the staff complement is comprised entirely of HDIs, with the vast majority being women.
Bickley House whose motto is “Think global buy local”, consciously strive to purchase local goods (and organic, wherever possible) that offer a uniquely South African ‘flavour’ to the guest experience. In addition, these two small businesses assist local, emerging entrepreneurs by utilising their services for airport transfers, garden services and spa treatments. New local suppliers are researched and utilised on an ongoing basis and guests are referred to local attractions and businesses in the area.
Bickley House also encourages guests to visit and support a local non profit child health and nutrition project called Philani, located in Khayelitsha. Jonas Sandstrom (the owner) is also planning hospitality training for eight black women from Philani following which internships will be secured for the women at various Cape Town guesthouses.
“We feel proud and honoured to be certified by Fair Trade in Tourism South Africa (FTTSA). It means a lot for our company, both for the owner and the staff. Responsible tourism is tomorrow’s way of travelling and FTTSA certification is an effective way of communicating our commitment to our customers.”
