Soweto Bicycle Tours is a unique concept of township tourism. Owner of Lebo’s Soweto Backpackers, Lebo Malepa started bicycle tours in Soweto in 2005. The tours quickly became popular for travellers seeking an alternative experience to a few hours day trip in a bus through the township.

The bicycle tour provides an opportunity to experience Soweto, its people and communities in an eco-friendly and personal manner, giving an insight in life, culture and history. All tours are guided by tour guides from Soweto passionate to show travellers famous historical sites as well as some of the hidden spots of the township. The tour is also an experience of the local township food, drinks and snacks. Guests gather around the calabash for some home brewed beer, have a bite of a Magwinya (“fat cake”) and taste the local burger – Kota – for lunch. Local businesses are supported throughout the tour route contributing to local purchasing.

A variety of tours are offered; 2 hours tour, half day tour, full day tour and a tour of Kliptown in Soweto.
