Ocean Safaris is a boat-based whale and dolphin watching company in Plettenberg Bay on the Garden Route with one of the limited permits to approach Southern Right Whales within 50 metres! Because of this, they offer spectacular boat-based whale watching and dolphin discovery safaris as well as a variety of tailor-made and private marine expeditions.

This business contributes financially to the daily running of the SONOP Soup Kitchen in Kranshoek, Plettenberg Bay. In addition to this and other financial contributions to various schools and institutions, Ocean Safaris donates time and resources to a number of local businesses in the form of marketing support and prizes for fund raising activities, for example.

Ocean Safaris’ conservation activities include: providing a platform for The Centre for Dolphin Studies (CDS) to conduct valuable research for conservation and educational purposes; offering local school children educational marine cruises and various awareness raising activities throughout the year to promote a better understanding of marine life and an appreciation for the environment; and hosting the yearly International Coastal Care Cleanup in September – a world-wide initiative that aims to educate people on the harmful effects of marine debris and what they can do to reverse these effects.

“It makes us proud to be acknowledged by an organisation that has such high standards and ideals for the tourism industry and people of this country as a whole. From the initial online application to final certification was an enlightening and smooth experience which really helped with putting everything we do and believe into a better perspective. It has helped us organise our priorities and work towards a better, happier and more productive company. A lot was learned and thank you for the helpful advise from the staff at FTTSA.”
Pamela Bates, Marketing Manager of Ocean Safaris
